Due for October Release

Study for illustration of Saint Patrick for book Saints Preserve Us to be released October 2008. Copyright Jeanne du Nord.

Saint Patrick was born about 385 near what is today the Welsh-Scottish border. His name was Gaewyn. When he was about        sixteen, he was captured by Irish pirates and taken to Ireland as a slave to tend sheep.
In those days, Ireland was very rural with little communication. Lawless free-booters defied the ancient Celtic Brehon law and        even the Celtic faith that venerated the triple spiral, already an ancient symbol by this time. [The Newgrange Spiral seen in the        border of the illustration, dates to about 3500 years before the time of Patrick!]

Patrick escaped slavery when he was about 22 years old and went to France. He became a monk, assumed the name Padraig,       and then returned to Ireland to teach Christianity and the importance of living a just and orderly life. He used the shamrock as a       reminder of the triple spiral, the belief in eternal life, and The Trinity.

Soulmates

What was the mystical force that so powerfully drew Du'ion and Jean-Luc together?

Was it their genealogical link to ancient Brittany?

Du'ion Carvilay is a career woman, a brilliant genealogical researcher, a traditionalist.
She knows the rules and she plays by them.

Jean-Luc Carvilay is a maverick, a risk-taker, a gambler, a writer who won't let any editor change his work.
He plays by his own rules.

What strange attraction draws them together? As in a skillfully played game of chess,
they make their seductive moves…until…checkmate! Soulmates!

Jack DeVaughn realized his dream of seeing Soulmates in print when he held a special proof copy on Wednesday afternoon, June 27, 2007. On the morning of June 29, 2007, Jack DeVaughn passed from this life.

This is the last photo together of co-authors Jack DeVaughn
  and Florence DeVaughn-Gertsen.

Perfect for small theatre companies, drama departments, and dinner theatres. This single-set, two-act play has two major female roles and one minor role that allows for improvisation by either a female or male character actor. The play is a 90-minute event with a first act of about 40 minutes, 20-minute intermission, and 30-minute second act.

The Green Rocking Chairs is a well-tested play with a record of productions at arts councils, colleges, universities, theatres, and conventions. It won the 1999 Maryland State Arts Council Award for best play. That same year the playwright was presented a citation from the Governor of Maryland for continuing excellence in the field of writing.

Synopsis
During the golden age of steamboats on the Chesapeake Bay, the verandahs of the legendary resorts were lined with green rocking chairs. Diary entries show that women met at these resorts and often continued their friendships year after year.

Amy Ainsworth of Philadelphia and Eliza Reynolds of Richmond first meet in the Gay Nineties and every summer thereafter through the Ragtime era, WWI, the Roaring Twenties, the Stock Market Crash, up to the gathering storm of WWII.

Lulled by Bay breezes and the rhythm of the green rocking chairs, they formed a friendship that strengthened their ability to face the events of life, right up to the play's unexpected conclusion.

BOOKS FOR ANIMAL WELFARE FUNDRAISING: Substantial discounts are available to animal welfare organizations.

Writers were invited to submit short stories to the Amazing Cat Tales Contest. The entries were numbered and judged 'blind'. There were three top awards plus 25 additional winners. After the judging, the editors were surprised to learn that the top three stories were written by men. Entries had come from all parts of the US, from men and women, and all ages.

Stories were chosen to reflect the wide spectrum of fascinating feline traits. The cat tales vary from funny to poignant, inspiring, endearing, clever, witty, all the way to sophisticated. There are clever, cuddly cats, witty, mischievous cats, matchmaking cats, supernatural cats, and even a truly amazing cat that can inspire boundless flights of fancy on Scheherazade magic carpet rides. Some tales are for story hour, some for happy hour and their appeal spans all age groups.

In the middle of the book's production, hurricanes devastated areas of the country, leaving displaced pets in their wakes. A project was devised, made possible in part by a grant from the Somerset County Chapter of the Maryland Arts Council, to make copies of Amazing Cat Tales available at cost to charitable organizations to sell for fundraising. Some of the illustrations were donated to a charity and auctioned for fundraising.

Exhibitions are being scheduled of the framed and matted illustrations.
The first will be August 6 at the Furnace Town Living Heritage Museum, Snow Hill, Maryland.

Short story titles are Lucky, Marcia, His Angel Wore Fur, The Long Road Home, Cats and Other Creatures Know, Cat-Astrophe Averted, a poem - Purrfect Priorities, Space Cats, The Tale of Tails, The Jealous Feline, The Assignment, Noodles Knows, Ugly Mother, Polyphemus, Beau, Cat and Mouse, Scratches, The Matchmaking Kitten, Silent Night- The Inside Story, Cat On a Cold Front Porch, The Gift, Tinkerbell, Salem's Cat, Mew Mew Marginata, Matchmaker, Sidney the Wonder Cat, Oliver Kittenheart, every Family Has One - Molly Is Mine, and a bonus poem, Muse.

The Celtic Quest tells the compelling story of Vercingetorix, great hero of the ancient Celts, whose enduring strength was drawn from the venerable Celtic philosophies.

Vercingetorix was the Gaelic leader who heroically fought the invasion and division of Celtic Gaul by the Romans in the 1st century BC. He was defeated and imprisoned for six years in the Tullanium, a filthy, damp, infested stone cell deep under Rome. The only contact he had with the outside world was through a small hole high up in the roof and the times when he was taken out and dragged through the streets to be pelted with insults and garbage.
The crowds tired of him and demanded new victims. Before he did away with him, Caesar asked, "Are you afraid to die?" Vercingetorix responded with a simple No. Caesar then said, "I must know how you have kept your sanity and your dignity these past six years." The reply Vercingetorix gave is the essence of Celtic spiritual fortitude.

The next day Vercingetorix, with unbroken dignity, was sadistically sacrificed to the Roman god of war, Mars.

Vercingetorix rediscovered wisdom lives on as timeless as ever. The philosophies of the ancient Celts form a guide to self-mastery in today's world.
